Kim Wood
1st Grade
Mrs. Wood has been employed as a first grade teacher since North Davis Preparatory Academy opened five years ago. She remembers the excitement and hard work of being on that inaugural team. First grade student learning is her passion and loves the energy, eagerness, inquisitive nature, humor and openness of their young minds. She is most appreciative of the supportive and gracious families and fellow staff members she has enjoyed over the years. With the support of many, the first grade has been able to accomplish much.
Mrs. Wood was born in Ogden, Utah and raised in the Kaysville community. She is the middle child of three. Her older sister, younger brother and she have fond memories of their youth. From early bike rides and week-end movies to summer jobs of child care, cherry picking, fast food and the game booths at Lagoon.
She is a graduate of Davis High and went on to attend the University of Utah. She received her Bachelor of Science Degree in Elementary Education with a minor in Fine Arts. She began her teaching career with the Davis District in Layton and then moved to work with special needs students in Farmington. She remained there for 13 years. She left the Davis District and taught at Layton Christian Academy before coming to NDPA. While involved in these educational experiences, she has continued to explore various classes to keep current on new ways to improve her own experience and that of her students.
Mrs. Wood is the mother of four children and the grandmother of 2 adorable boys. Her oldest son lives in the Boston area and she loves to go visit whenever possible. Her second son and his wife live in Layton with her grandchildren and her two teenagers are at home with her. She is the first one to admit that being a Grandma is the BEST job in the world!
Mrs. Wood is an avid Gym enthusiast. She enjoys the physical release and the fitness routines of cycling, Zumba dancing, toning, step, and kick-boxing. She fondly recalls the first place Karate trophy she won a few years back in the Women’s division and credits her kick-boxing fondness to those early roots.
The warm days of summer will find her outside enjoying hiking, walks, golf and tennis and exploring with her grandsons. She is a collector of vintage hats, gloves and purses, looks forward to travel, higher education and hopes to start on her Master degree program to inspire her own children and others to embrace their dreams and to never stop learning.
She believes the world is there for us to see, people “in their splendor”, are waiting to share their lives and culture with us and she is passionate about being part of it. Her goal is to help children wherever possible in the world living in poverty and dismay. She is determined to make a difference in someone’s life.
