NDPA offers a dual language program (English/Spanish) for students to become bi-literate. All curriculum course offerings are aligned with the Utah State Core Curriculum and UPASS tests. The curriculum addresses the needs of each language group to include: primary language development, second language acquisition, development of cognitive language and literacy skills, and the development of cross-cultural understanding.
The objectives and themes in NDPA's curriculum for grades K-9 are broadly based on the Utah State Core Curriculum used by Davis School District. The curriculum incorporates theoretical foundations of bilingual education and second-language acquisition to implement effective program models. Using a thematic approach, content and literacy instruction is offered to all students in both languages. ESL techniques are evident in all classrooms to assist both the language-minority students and English-proficient students.

North Davis Preparatory Academy is now Utah’s first International Spanish Academy. We now have a special relationship with the Ministry of Education of Spain which will provide our school with opportunities beyond our current abilities. Our school has been selected from the many applicants in the United State and Canada to receive this distinction. We will celebrate this momentous occasion on Thursday, January 28, at 2:00 with assemblies in both schools. |
What is an International Spanish Academy (ISA)? ISA schools are schools with a strong emphasis on the Spanish language and all the Spanish cultures of the world. Students in ISA schools build their Spanish language skills so that up to ½ of their instruction is delivered in Spanish. As most of you know, our students already receive a great deal of their instruction in Spanish, and we increase that amount a little every year.
As an ISA, we will have the opportunity to develop student exchange programs and educational trips to Spain. In addition, annual training will be provided to the teachers to improve instructional strategies in bi-lingual instruction. Administrators will receive annual training in the design and development of dual-language schools.
We are honored by this great distinction, and we look forward to providing interesting new learning opportunities for our students.
